The Premier League Referees' Association has admitted mistakes were made regarding a penalty situation where Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma was put to the ground against Tottenham on Saturday.
It was at 1-1 when Mitoma was brought down by Pierre-Emile Hjbjerg inside the area. Ref Stuart Attwell was clear that it was not a penalty. VAR also did a quick check without choosing to award Brighton a penalty.
Tottenham won the match 2-1 in the end. After the match, Brighton captain Lewis Dunk admitted frustration with the situation.
"I don't see what VAR is here to do. You choose to use it to make big decisions, but choose not to make the big decisions anyway. What's the point of that then?" he said.
It is the third time this season that Brighton have received an apology from the referees' association for a situation that has unfolded on the pitch.
