British heavyweight lands world title shot – and it’s not Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury

  • Moses Itauma and Filip Hrgovic are scheduled to fight for the IBF heavyweight title on 29 August at London’s O2 Arena, following the addition of the championship belt to their highly anticipated bout.
  • The IBF title became vacant after Oleksandr Usyk decided to vacate his unified belts, significantly raising the stakes for the upcoming clash between Itauma and Hrgovic.
  • If 21-year-old Moses Itauma secures a victory, he would achieve the remarkable feat of becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion since Mike Tyson back in 1986.
  • Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions expressed strong confidence in Itauma, noting his impressive unbeaten record of 14-0 with 12 knockouts and his rapid ascent since turning professional.
  • The fight arrangement included Cuban boxer Frank Sanchez stepping aside from his mandatory challenge for the vacant IBF title, with an agreement that he will face the winner of the Itauma vs Hrgovic contest, while Itauma’s fellow British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury look set to face each other later this year.
