British man jailed after spying on Ukraine military for Russia

  • A Scottish man, Ross David Cutmore, who worked as a military instructor in Ukraine, has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years for spying for Russia.
  • Cutmore was recruited by a member of the Russian special services and transmitted information about the Ukrainian military in return for payment.
  • He pleaded guilty in a plea deal at the Kyiv district court of Odesa on 30 April.
  • His activities included providing co-ordinates of Ukrainian units, photographs of a training area, and data that could identify service personnel and facilities in Odesa.
  • Cutmore was also found to have illegally possessed a Makarov pistol and combat cartridges, and discussed the possibility of using explosive devices.
