KOTA MARUDU: Two brothers had a harrowing experience when strong currents swept their Toyota Vigo away while crossing a low-lying concrete bridge in Kampung Sungai Simpangan near here Wednesday.
Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station Operations Officer Asman Omar said the men, both in their 40s, were reported safe.
Asman said a team of six led by Jakri Bahar went to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 9.07pm.
Preliminary findings showed that the vehicle was swept away by strong currents as the siblings were attempting to cross the bridge at Sungai Simpangan.
“One climbed on the roof of the car and was subsequently rescued by the team, while the other managed to get out of the vehicle to save himself and was found safe by the riverbank.
“The operation was brought under control at 10.21pm and ended at 10.24pm,” he said.
