TAWAU: Two brothers were injured after they were struck while assisting a fallen motorcyclist in a five-vehicle pile-up at Mile 15, Jalan Apas here on Thursday evening.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said preliminary investigations revealed that a 52-year-old motorcyclist had first lost control of his machine and crashed onto the road at about 7.20pm.
The brothers, aged 30 and 27, who arrived in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, stopped to render assistance before a black Perodua Bezza travelling from Balung towards Tawau town allegedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles and the siblings.
The 30-year-old brother suffered a fractured right arm and remains warded at Tawau Hospital, while his younger sibling sustained minor injuries and has since been discharged.
Rosdi said a blood sample was taken from the Bezza driver, who is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, with the case being investigated under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
