Bryson DeChambeau played alongside Rory McIlroy in the final group at The Masters in 2025.

And after just one hole, DeChambeau was immediately tied for the lead at The Masters after Rory McIlroy made a double bogey on the first.

The American collapsed during the final round at Augusta National, shooting a hugely disappointing round of three-over-par 75.

Meanwhile, McIlroy struggled himself to a final round 73 at The Masters, but eventually got the better of Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff at Augusta National.

All DeChambeau could do was look on and attempt to learn what it takes to win the career Grand Slam.

DeChambeau and McIlroy were involved in a heated battle at The Masters in 2025, with the American and the Northern Irishman clearly not seeing eye to eye.

The LIV Golf star accused the PGA Tour player of not speaking to him once during the final round of The Masters.

McIlroy responded by saying words to the effect of, ‘what on earth did he expect’?

How Bryson DeChambeau felt watching Rory McIlroy complete the career Grand Slam

The two golfers are quite clearly not the best of friends.

So it was interesting to hear DeChambeau’s response when he was asked by reporters at Augusta on Tuesday if he learned anything from McIlroy during the final round in 2025.

It was a great learning lesson, DeChambeau admitted.

Leading or being tied for the lead and having the lead, that last group final round, gave me a lot of perspective on it. Then losing it and having things not go my way as they finished out and Rory completed the Grand Slam.

Like I said, last year he earned it, right? It was really cool to see in person.

Secondarily, I think, as I reflect back on it, the one thing I can take from it is I can put myself in those positions. The more I put myself in those positions, the better opportunities I’m going to have to win. It’s just been a gradual learning process. You never know what this week may bring, but I certainly hope to give it my all and put myself back in that position because I want to feel it again.

Bryson DeChambeau discusses new wedges ahead of The Masters

DeChambeau has completely new wedges in the bag this week.

The American designed them himself and he was asked how he is expecting them to perform around Augusta National.

South Africa, I was trying wedges, DeChambeau said

So I was going quite a bit down a rabbit hole there and figured a couple cool things out. Hopefully it helps this week. Then I am working on irons, building irons, building a driver. So we’ll see where it goes, we’ll see where it takes me. All I could say now is, if I don’t put them in the bag, it’s my fault.

Around the greens, the 60 degree is pretty much the same.

Hopefully it stays the same this year. I would say from a 50 degree and 55 degree perspective, there’s a little more bounce on the wedge.

So hopefully it glides through the turf a bit better. We’ll see how that works. They’re working well as of now. I played well in my last few events with them in soft conditions.

So I hope that’s an attribute that will help me get to a better place with my wedging because everyone knows about my wedges.
