Bryson DeChambeau has consistently challenged the traditions of golf.
He arrived on the scene attempting to bring an analytical approach to the sport, analyzing every aspect of every shot, from the temperature to the moisture on the ground, to come up with the perfect number. It earned him the nickname “The Scientist” thanks to his background in physics.
DeChambeau wants to push the boundaries of golf. He wants to see just how far we can take technology, by increasing distance as far as it will go to dismantle every golf course on the planet. Every par four would be drivable if it were up to DeChambeau.
But despite showing little regard for golf’s traditions, DeChambeau still pays homage to the game’s history. He often cites Canadian Golf Hall of Famer Moe Norman as an inspiration for his style of play.
And Norman was included in the dream foursome that DeChambeau recently named.

Bryson DeChambeau’s dream foursome in golfing history
DeChambeau named Norman, who never made a major championship cut but won 55 times in his professional career, among the three golfers he’d like to make up his dream foursome in golfing history. The other two are undisputed legends of the game.
He was asked who his golfing heroes are that he’d most like to play with on The Katie Miller Podcast, and he replied, “Bill Murray is always someone who’s caught my attention. Carl Spackler in Happy Shack, growing up watching that. And then Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler, those are a few. I got to play with Adam Sandler and do a break 50 with him.
“But here’s the deal, I would loved to have played with Arnold Palmer, for sure, that would have been amazing. If I had to pick a foursome, it would be Tiger, Moe Norman, Arnold Palmer, and myself.”
This would make an interesting collection of personalities for sure! Unfortunately, DeChambeau shows no consistency on this subject.
Bryson DeChambeau named three different golfers who he’d like to play with the most
DeChambeau, in the same interview, was then asked again for his dream golf foursome, and the golf course he’d like to play on, and he confusingly gave three completely different names.
First, he named the venue, saying, “Cypress Point would be the golf course; it’s my favorite place in the world. Very lucky to have played there. It’s a Dr. Alister MacKenzie design; he’s my favorite designer.
“It’s more of a naturalistic landscape, a lot of deception. He puts a lot of deception in there. Makes you feel like you need to hit it to a certain place when you don’t. It’s very tricky. It’s engineering and physics, a lot of strategy behind it. He’s very much a strategist.
“And I’d say the people I’d love to play with the most: Bobby Jones would be incredible. I would love to have played with him, to get his mind on things. Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan would have been amazing, and then myself.”
So between Moe Norman, Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones and Byron Nelson, you have DeChambeau’s dream foursome in there somewhere!
