Bryson DeChambeau and Jackson Koivun are both in the US Open field at Shinnecock Hills this week.

DeChambeau is one of the biggest stars in the game right now, if not the biggest.

Meanwhile, Koivun has just begun his professional golfing journey, and will be making his first start as a pro this week at Shinnecock Hills.

DeChambeau hasn’t spoken to the media during US Open week, and he is clearly putting all of his focus into working on his game.

DeChambeau played a practice round with Koivun and Patrick Reed at Shinnecock Hills on Sunday.

And he has been spending a fair amount of time with the youngster throughout the week at Shinnecock as well.

What Bryson DeChambeau was doing with Jackson Koivun ahead of the US Open

Koivun earned his PGA Tour card through the University Accelerated program last year.

However, he held off turning pro in order to play one more year of college golf as an amateur.

Now everyone will get a close-up glimpse of his quality during the US Open at Shinnecock.

DeChambeau has seen Koivun’s incredible ability himself on Long Island this week.

And credit where credit is due to the LIV Golf star, he has made himself available all week for the young starlet.

According to Matt Vincenzi, ‘DeChambeau gave Koivun his number and told him to call him if he needs anything’.

That is a classy move from DeChambeau, and Koivun having the two-time US Open champion as someone whom he can call upon for advice could prove to be invaluable over the next few years.

What PGA Tour players and caddies have been saying about Jackson Koivun

The 21-year-old has already displayed his incredible ability during his numerous appearances on the PGA Tour.

Numerous PGA Tour players have already been blown away by the youngster’s ability.

After the Walker Cup last year, Smylie Kaufman revealed what he has heard from players and caddies on the PGA Tour about Koivun.

Jackson Koivun was my MVP. He is the leader of this team. He is the player they all look up to as far as being the guy to go out first in every one of these matches, he said.

He has already got his PGA Tour card through the accelerated programme and has won all the awards in his Freshman year.

What he was able to do this week was pretty impressive. I was not surprised at what he did.

From all the pros I talk to about Jackson Koivun and word around the street from caddies and other players is that this kid is the real deal.

What we have seen in his last three PGA Tour starts, he has finished in the top 25 pretty much every single time. It just goes to show that his game is not only good enough for the top level of amateur golf but he is good enough right now to make a career on the PGA Tour.
