Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) protested outside DC office here on Friday against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s alleged oppression on the people of Punjab.
Leading the protest, BSP’s Jalandhar zone in charge Tirath Rajpura and Balwinder Kumar said that AAP has oppressed every section of Punjab in its four years of rule. Unemployed youths have recently been lathi-charged in Patiala. They said that while oppression is being done against employees and farmers, Dalits have also been oppressed on a large scale in AAP’’s rule. “The AAP government has given free rein to officers at the SSP level to commit as many atrocities on Dalits as they want. This is the reason, the police have committed atrocities on Dalits on a large scale in Jalandhar and especially in the Doaba region”, they said.
BSP leaders said that the Jalandhar Rural Police has framed most of the Dalits in false cases and sent them to jail. “Apart from this, challans have been deliberately presented against 42 innocent Dalits in false highway case. Illegal arrests have been made in false cases. Even false cases of extortion and assault have been registered against girls belonging to the Dalit community by the Jalandhar Rural Police”, they alleged.
The BSP leaders gave a memorandum to the Governor of Punjab through Deputy Commissioner. In this, it demanded justice to the apprentice linemen of PSPCL, immediate release of employees and pensioners’ 18 per cent DA arrears and strict action to be taken in the case of incidents of torture against other sections as well as Dalits.
