KUALA LUMPUR - The government cancels RM15 billion in flood mitigation projects and RM7 billion in Jana Wibawa projects that were awarded through direct tender.

In re-tabling the revised Budget 2023 today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also gave assurance that bribery and corruption will not be condoned in the country.

"The implementation of the government’s procurement, for example, must be transparent and open based on good governance.

"There should be no arbitrary waste of public funds or law violations through direct negotiation methods."

"I can see that 222 (MPs) support this idea," he said adding that this was to ensure better transparency in government procurements

Members of parliament (MPs) applauded loudly when this announced.

Adding further, Anwar said as part of public sector reforms, government agencies such as the Inland Revenue Board, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and the police are investigating corruption allegations, including the Pandora Papers.

"The IRB is also investigating individuals with unusual wealth," he added.

A bill for a Government Procurements Act will be revived, Anwar said.

"The Unity government will also table amendments to the Whistleblower Protection Act this year as part of efforts to curb corruption," he added.
