Selangor MB Amirudin Shari says the 2027 state budget will prioritise education support systems and boosting STEM participation.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor government will focus on strengthening the education support system and increasing student participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) under the 2027 State Budget.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the focus would include strengthening efforts to ensure students’ academic excellence is maintained, while providing more opportunities for them to participate in STEM and contribute to the community.
He said the efforts were important given that Selangor has about one million students, meaning that improvements in their achievements could have a significant impact on society and the country.
“In our budget, we will strengthen excellent examination results, STEM participation and there are several pushes that we will try to put in place so that they can serve or contribute to the community.
“If these one million students achieve excellent results, it will have a positive impact on society and give the country a very positive push,” he told reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the Gombak Form Six College and 2026 Academic Excellence Awards ceremony in Gombak, here today.
On efforts to upgrade school infrastructure, Amirudin said the state government was currently in the process of gathering detailed information on the requirements before the allocation is finalised.
“We are still gathering the information. We will only finalise it around September or October,” he said.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state government had also introduced the Himpunan Pelajar Tingkatan Enam Selangor (HIPSTERS) as a support platform for students in preparation for pursuing higher education.
The programme also provides book vouchers and free internet data to Form Six students, with 10,000 students receiving book vouchers in 2026, compared with previously when the initiative only involved university students.
He said the state government was prepared to consider expanding the programme to more Form Six schools in the future based on current needs and demand.
