The Malaysian government has announced a special financial assistance payment of RM1,500 for approximately 1.3 million civil servants under Budget 2027, recognising the contributions of public sector employees across the country.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the assistance while presenting Budget 2027 in Parliament on Friday. The payment will cover civil servants in Grade Utama B and below, including contract trainees, as part of the government's continued efforts to acknowledge the dedication and service of the public workforce.

In his budget speech, Anwar said the government had agreed to provide the special financial assistance to eligible civil servants next year in recognition of their contributions to the nation. The RM1,500 payment is expected to provide additional financial support to public servants as they manage household expenses and prepare for important occasions throughout the year.

RM750 Assistance for Government Pensioners

In addition to serving civil servants, the government will extend financial assistance to approximately one million government pensioners, including both pensioned and non-pensioned veterans. Eligible recipients in this group will receive RM750 under the special financial assistance initiative.

The announcement highlights the government's recognition of not only current public sector employees but also former civil servants and veterans who have contributed to the country's development and public service. The assistance is intended to offer additional financial relief to eligible recipients, particularly as they navigate rising living costs and other household commitments.

Payments to Be Made in Two Phases

According to Anwar, the special financial assistance will be distributed in two phases next year. The first payment will be made before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, allowing eligible recipients to prepare for the festive season. The second payment will be distributed ahead of the Merdeka celebrations, which mark Malaysia's National Day.

This two-phase approach is expected to provide financial support at two significant points in the national calendar, helping recipients plan their spending and meet their financial needs throughout the year. However, further details on the exact payment dates and distribution arrangements were not provided in the announcement.

Budget 2027 Focuses on Public Sector Contributions

The special financial assistance forms part of the measures announced under Budget 2027, with the government highlighting the importance of recognising the role played by civil servants, pensioners and veterans in national development. With approximately 1.3 million civil servants eligible for RM1,500 each and around one million pensioners and veterans set to receive RM750, the initiative covers a substantial portion of Malaysia's public service community.

Eligible recipients should monitor official government announcements for further information on payment schedules, eligibility requirements and the disbursement process. The announcement is expected to be welcomed by many public servants and retirees seeking additional financial support in the coming year.
