For senior citizens like me, healthcare under the Budget 2027 means more affordable daily care, faster medical treatment, and stronger financial support to age with dignity. As I growing older and steadily age into the 80s, the cost of specialized care can become a heavy burden. The new measures directly lower these daily expenses: (1) Cheaper professional care for service tax on senior care services is reduced to 6% (down from 8%); (2) Tax exemptions on care fees up to RM96,000 per year in care fees is completely exempt from service tax; (3) Easier tax relief for families whose good children pay for our medical bills can claim tax relief much more easily, as it now covers all general care expenses without needing strict doctor certifications; (4) Faster Treatment & Facilities.
In the past years, I have experienced long wait times at public hospitals that can be physically exhausting for seniors. Alhamdulillah (thanks God), the Budget tackles this by upgrading the public health system: (1) Shorter waiting times with a RM200 million outsourcing allocations, public hospitals can transfer senior patients yo private clinics or hospitals for quicker treatments at no extra cost to seniors; (2) Modernized facilities of RM1.2 billion upgrade means cleaner clinics, newer ambulances, & better-equipped dialysis centers closer to our home; (3) Specialized care centers for creation of National Integrated Care Centers that ensures medical staff are better trained in geriatric (elderly) care. For me, healthcare is not just about medicines, it is about financial peace of mind.
I am grateful the Direct cash assistance of RM1.26 billion welfare fund ensures that low-income seniors receive regular financial aid for daily necessities. I am delighted that the upcoming Senior Citizens Bill creates legal safety nets to ensure elderly individuals are not abandoned or left without proper care. It is completely natural that I do not want to be a physical burden to my children.
