Budi abuse: Kiosk staff held

LAHAD DATU: Police arrested three employees of a petrol station here for their involvement in four transactions of Budi Madani, allegedly made without the knowledge of a MyKad holder.

ACP DzulbaharinDistrict Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said police received a report from the victim stating that his Budi diesel quota had been used without his knowledge.

The victim claimed that four transactions were made involving 43.01 litres of diesel at a fuel station without his consent.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect’s modus operandi was to record customers’ MyKad numbers when they refuelled using their identity cards to obtain the diesel subsidy,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

Dzulbaharin said the suspect then used a supervisor’s password to key the MyKad numbers, without the physical identity cards, into the Budi Madani Diesel system terminal, enabling ineligible customers to purchase subsidised diesel.

“The suspect would use other people’s MyKad numbers to obtain the subsidised price and unlawfully pocket the difference,” he said.

The main suspect was charged at the Lahad Datu Magistrate’s Court Wednesday (Aug 5) under Section 403 of the Penal Code on four counts misusing MyKad details of other persons for Budi Diesel transactions.

“The suspect pleaded guilty and was jailed eight months and ordered given four strokes of the cane,” he said, adding the other two were made prosecution witnesses in the case.

Dzulbaharin advised the public to exercise caution when handing over their MyKad during fuel purchases and to lodge a police report immediately if they suspect their Budi Madani subsidy has been misused or have information on such offences.
