Petrol station worker jailed and caned for using others’ MyKad numbers to fraudulently claim BUDI MADANI Diesel subsidy in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: A petrol station worker was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment and four strokes of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to four charges of fraudulently using other people’s MyKad numbers to obtain the BUDI MADANI Diesel subsidy.

Lahad Datu police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the man was arrested last Friday together with two co-workers, including a woman. However, the other two were subsequently made prosecution witnesses.

“Police received a report from a victim who discovered that his BUDI MADANI Diesel subsidy quota had been used four times, involving a total of 43.01 litres, without his knowledge.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect’s modus operandi was to record customers’ MyKad numbers when they refuelled using their identity cards to obtain the diesel subsidy,” he said in a statement today.

Dzulbaharin said the suspect then used a supervisor’s password to key the MyKad numbers, without the physical identity cards, into the BUDI MADANI Diesel system terminal, enabling ineligible customers to purchase subsidised diesel.

“The suspect would use other people’s MyKad numbers to obtain the subsidised price and unlawfully pocket the difference,” he said.

Dzulbaharin advised the public to exercise caution when handing over their MyKad during fuel purchases and to lodge a police report immediately if they suspect their BUDI MADANI subsidy has been misused or have information on such offences.
