PUTRAJAYA - Residents in Peninsular Malaysia can purchase subsidised diesel at RM2.15 per litre via the Budi Madani initiative starting this Saturday, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan announced.

He added that the initiative will be expanded nationwide on 1 July, offering diesel at RM2.10 per litre for eligible local drivers with valid licences and registered diesel vehicles.

"Applicants can check their eligibility status starting today via the Budi Madani portal or by contacting the customer service centre," Amir Hamzah said during a press conference on the implementation of targeted diesel subsidies at the Treasury building on Monday.

Eligible diesel vehicle owners will automatically receive a baseline monthly quota of 200 litres without needing to apply. The government will use existing data from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the BUDI Madani database to automatically verify and activate eligibility.

However, owners of pickup trucks and jeeps can apply for an additional 100 litres per month, bringing their total monthly quota to 300 litres.

"We understand that in remote areas, travel distances can be greater. For these diesel vehicle owners, we are providing an opportunity to apply for an extra 100 litres per month, but they must submit an application," he said.

Amir Hamzah added that applications for the additional quota can be made through the Budi Madani portal or by visiting the nearest Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) office.

He noted that nearly 95% of individual diesel users consume less than 300 litres a month, and the government considers the allocated amount sufficient for their needs.

The new mechanism will also standardise diesel subsidies across the country, including Sabah and Sarawak.

"The price and the method will be uniform nationwide across the Peninsula, Sabah, and Sarawak. The government is using the Budi Diesel MyKad mechanism, similar to the Budi RON95 system," he said.

Under the BUDI Diesel mechanism, 700,000 private diesel vehicle owners will be able to buy subsidised diesel at the fixed rates by using their MyKad at all petrol stations nationwide.
