Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre Klang (BTMC) has strengthened its orthopaedic services with the establishment of an Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence (CoE), bringing treatment, multidisciplinary expertise and rehabilitation together for patients in Klang and nearby communities. Its scope runs from common joint and sports-related injuries to complex trauma and fractures.
The idea behind the Centre is simple. Recovery goes beyond fixing an injury or condition, so care is coordinated around helping patients regain movement, everyday function and independence.

Inside BTMC’s Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence

Located at Level 4, Zone B of the hospital, the Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence is organised around six key areas of care:
- Joint care and replacement
- Sports injuries and arthroscopy
- Spine care
- Trauma and fracture management
- Hand and microsurgery
- Foot and ankle conditions
A Tenth-Anniversary Milestone for Klang

The launch coincides with BTMC’s tenth anniversary. Puan Norliza binti Razali, Chief Executive Officer of BTMC, said the Centre reflects the hospital’s continued commitment to the orthopaedic needs of the community.
“As BTMC celebrates its tenth anniversary, the establishment of the Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence marks an important milestone for us. Orthopaedic conditions can affect people at every stage of life, from age-related joint problems in older adults to back pain in working adults and sports injuries in younger people,” she said.
Looking ahead, she added that BTMC hopes the Centre will “bring specialised orthopaedic care closer to home for the people of Klang and surrounding communities, including those travelling from Banting and beyond.”
Seven Specialists, One Coordinated Team

The Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence brings together seven specialists covering orthopaedic surgery, trauma, spine, sports-related conditions, hand and microsurgery, and sports medicine. As a tertiary hospital, BTMC can also call on specialists in Sports Medicine, Neurosurgery and Rheumatology to support diagnosis, treatment and recovery in more complex cases.
According to Dr Avthar Singh, Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon at BTMC, no two treatment plans look the same. “Every patient is different, and the appropriate treatment depends on their condition, lifestyle and individual needs. Some orthopaedic conditions can be managed without surgery, while others may require more complex procedures or input from specialists across different medical disciplines.”
Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement and Minimally Invasive Options
Depending on the condition, treatment may range from medication, injections and physiotherapy to minimally invasive procedures, fracture surgery or joint replacement.
Robotic-assisted technology is available for selected total knee and hip replacement procedures, alongside minimally invasive surgical techniques where clinically appropriate. Each option is considered according to the patient’s diagnosis and clinical requirements.
Rehabilitation That Restores Everyday Independence
Dr Avthar was quick to point out that the journey does not end with treatment. “Treatment, however, is only one part of the journey. Rehabilitation may also be necessary to help patients regain strength, mobility and independence. By bringing these services together, we aim to provide a more coordinated approach to care, supporting patients from diagnosis through to recovery,” he said.
Physiotherapy focuses on improving movement, strength and physical function. Occupational therapy, meanwhile, helps patients manage tasks that may have become difficult after an injury, illness or treatment, such as dressing, bathing, preparing meals or moving safely around the home.
“For some, recovery may mean returning to work or sports, while for others, it may be about walking comfortably or managing daily activities independently. Understanding these individual goals is important when planning treatment and rehabilitation,” Dr Avthar added.
In Motion, We Strive
The Centre’s guiding theme, In Motion, We Strive, reflects BTMC’s focus on supporting patients throughout their orthopaedic care journey. The 171-bed, MSQH-accredited hospital also offers four operating theatres, a catheterisation laboratory and 24/7 emergency services, and is part of Asia OneHealthcare, the group behind Subang Jaya Medical Centre and its recent SJMC Run 2026.
