SANDAKAN: Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said preliminary discussions on cooperation between Umno-BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have begun internally, even though no formal announcement has yet been made.
According to Bung, the proposal has received positive feedback from both parties, and talks are ongoing to iron out the technical aspects to align their respective approaches.
“I am confident and believe that our goal is to ensure that the unity government across the country remains secure and undisturbed,” he said.
Bung also proposed that both major parties join forces to face the coming Sabah State Election in a bid to maintain political stability and ensure the continuity of the unity government’s administration at the State level.
He said BN Malaysia Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is optimistic on the collaboration and is expected to make an official announcement soon.
Commenting on the status of Datuk Shahelmy Yahya, Bung clarified that his membership has been suspended for six years due to disloyalty to the party, in line with a decision made at last year’s party meeting.
“His status is clear. Any member or leader who defies the party’s decisions will face disciplinary action as stipulated in Umno’s constitution,” he stressed.
He said Umno does not need candidates who are driven by personal interests without genuine loyalty to the party’s cause.
Bung made these remarks when speaking to the media during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by BN Sekong Coordinator, Mohd Zharif Aizat Datuk Samsudin, at Sri Taman.
