Bursa Malaysia nearly flat at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 ― Bursa Malaysia was almost flat at mid-morning amid a lack of fresh catalysts.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 0.23 of-a-point to 1,487.64 from yesterday's close of 1,487.87.

The market bellwether opened 0.70 of-a-point firmer at 1,488.57.

Market breadth was positive with gainers leading losers 357 to 347, while 369 counters were unchanged, 1,129 untraded and 12 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.61 billion units worth RM1.01 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank slid three sen to RM8.80, IHH Healthcare shed one sen to RM5.95, Public Bank and CIMB were unchanged at RM4.31 and RM5.77, respectively, and Petronas Chemicals added five sen to RM8.35.

As for the actives, Leform, DS Sigma and Vinvest Capital were flat at 22.5 sen, 65.5 sen and 20.5 sen, respectively, while Unitrade Industries rose one sen to 25.5 sen and Zen Tech International climbed half-a-sen to 3.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 15.34 points to 10,741.72, the FBMT 100 Index added 14.58 points to 10,438.50, the FBM Emas Shariah Index garnered 25.94 points to 10,943.03, the FBM 70 Index went up 88.59 points to 13,357.90, and the FBM ACE Index improved 30.06 points to 5,439.82.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index shrank 30.56 points to 16,534.90 and the Plantation Index weakened 10.14 points to 6,924.54, while the Industrial Products and Services Index bagged 0.61 of-a-point to 183.91 and the Energy Index edged up 8.79 points to 822.69. ― Bernama
