Busy weekend for Beaufort firemen

BEAUFORT: The Fire and Rescue Department had a busy weekend recently.

Its Beaufort head said among the cases that kept his men busy were cutting a ring, catching snakes, unlocking a key, saving a cat and destroying the hornets’ nest.

“On Saturday, a cobra was found in a room at a house and we caught it using a snake catcher. It was released into the wild later. Cutting the ring on finger.

“Then at 11.20am on Sunday, an elderly woman could not dislodge the ring from her finger and firemen had to use a special apparatus to cut it,” he said.

He added before that, firemen were at Kampung Muhibbah at 8.59am to unlock a Perodua Bezza.

“A day before that, firemen were at Kampung Karambai Kukut at 7.04pm to destroy a hornets’ nest which was too close to a house. A cobra was found in a room at a house

“Prior to that, they destroyed another hornets’ nest at Kampung Kuala Balik. In both cases they used poisonous spray and burnt the nests,” he said.

A cat found stranded on an oil palm tree at Kampung Luagan was rescued by firemen at 2.49pm on the same day.

Meanwhile, firemen also caught a snake hiding below a flower rack at SK Mempagar at 11am on Thursday.
