CA OKs promotion of military officials

THE Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday approved the promotion of five senior military officials and 85 foreign affairs officers.

The CA approved the ad interim appointments of Vice Admiral Allan Javier, Maj. Gen. Isagani Criste, Brig. Gen. Niceforo Diaz Jr., Brig. Gen. Rosemawattee Remo, and Lt. Gen. Edmundo Peralta.

It also approved the nominations and ad interim appointments of 85 officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs, including Josel Ignacio as ambassador to India, with concurrent jurisdiction over Nepal; Senen Mangalile as ambassador to Cambodia; Noel Novicio as ambassador to Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Fiji; Robespierre Bolivar as chief of mission; and Emilio Fernandez as chief of mission.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson, chairman of the CA Committee on Foreign Affairs, said the career diplomats deserve timely action because they have devoted their careers to advancing Philippine interests abroad.

The CA also approved the request of the DFA to waive the personal appearance of 63 officials, many of whom are posted overseas, on official travel, or performing essential consular and diplomatic duties.
