The UT Administration has decided to take strict action against other cab aggregator companies following action against Ola.

Officials said several companies failed to implement the provisions of the Aggregator Policy notified over a year ago. “Notices have been issued to aggregator companies, including inDrive, Uber and Rapido, to comply with the norms within 15 days or face suspension of the licence,” they stated.

The move comes amid growing pressure from cab drivers, who had been protesting for the past week against the non-implementation of the policy. Drivers argued that the delay affected their rights and working conditions.

Yesterday, the Administration took action against Ola (ANI Technologies Private Limited) for failing to implement the Aggregator Policy and for not responding adequately to official notices. The company’s aggregator licence was suspended with immediate effect for a period of six months.

The owners of cabs attached with OLA were advised not to attach or ply their cabs/bike taxis under the said company and not to accept ride bookings through the OLA application within Chandigarh. Vehicles found operating in violation of these directions would be challaned and impounded, ordered the UT Administration.

The authorities advised the general public not to book rides through cabs operating on the OLA application in order to avoid inconvenience.

Officials clarified that compliance with the Aggregator Policy was mandatory for all cab service providers operating in the city. The notices issued to companies directed them to ensure operations were conducted in accordance with prescribed regulations, including proper driver registration, adherence to safety standards and implementation of other mandatory provisions outlined in the policy.

The Administration emphasised that its primary objective was to ensure passenger safety and bring cab services under a transparent and regulated framework.

Cab drivers have welcomed the Administration’s stance, saying that implementation of the Aggregator Policy would help protect their interests and improve accountability among cab companies. They believe the policy will create a fairer system for drivers while also enhancing service standards for passengers.
