A delegation of farmers will soon meet Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria to press for the early implementation of a land pooling policy in Chandigarh.

The delegation will urge the Administrator to introduce a farmer-friendly land pooling framework that safeguards the interests of rural landowners and ensures their participation in the city’s future development.

The decision was taken during a meeting of farmers held at Sarangpur village under the leadership of Chandigarh Pendu Vikas Manch president Satinder Pal Singh Sidhu.

The meeting was attended by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal) president Harinder Singh Lakhowal, who announced support to the demand.

Addressing the gathering, Lakhowal said they had consistently been raising the voice of farmers on issues affecting their livelihoods and rights.

He said Chandigarh was developed on the land of surrounding villages, yet the concerns and aspirations of the rural population had often been overlooked. He assured farmers that the BKU would strongly advocate their cause at both state and national levels.

Speaking on the occasion, Sidhu said he had met Kataria on several occasions regarding the implementation of the policy.

He further noted that the Administrator had always responded positively to the demand and assured serious consideration of the proposal.
