Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim indicated that a Cabinet reshuffle is on the horizon, revealing that he has considered several potential candidates to fill existing vacancies. However, he stressed that the list remains unfinished and will undergo further discussion with the leaders of political parties within the MADANI Government before any decision is confirmed.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar said that although selecting Cabinet members falls under the Prime Minister’s constitutional prerogative, he intends to weigh the views of coalition partners. He noted that consultation is an important part of maintaining trust and ensuring that the national administration remains cohesive. For now, he has yet to meet any party leaders specifically to deliberate on the matter, but discussions are expected soon.
Anwar hinted that the reshuffle would be minor, primarily aimed at filling vacancies rather than overhauling ministerial leadership. This comes as part of a broader effort to ensure continuity and stability within the government while addressing gaps in key portfolios.
He was joined at the press conference by his wife, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, signalling the importance of the moment as public speculation continues to grow over possible Cabinet changes.
When asked about MCA’s recent call for Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to be removed from the Cabinet, Anwar responded coolly, stating only that he appreciated the suggestion but viewed it as the party’s opinion. He made it clear that such input, while noted, does not determine the government’s decisions.
The Prime Minister also dismissed allegations that the Cabinet interfered in Dewan Rakyat affairs, specifically relating to the suspension of Perikatan Nasional Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. Anwar highlighted that Cabinet members, many of whom are also party leaders, routinely advise their backbenchers—a practice he said has existed across administrations for decades, including during PN’s own time in power.
Through his remarks, Anwar presented a measured stance on the reshuffle—acknowledging the need for adjustments while emphasising that any decision would reflect collaboration within the ruling coalition. The anticipated announcement is likely to shape the next phase of the MADANI Government, particularly as it navigates political pressures, administrative demands, and the expectations of voters who continue to gauge the government’s performance.
The final list, once completed, is expected to align with the administration’s emphasis on competence, stability, and unified leadership heading into the coming year.
