KAJANG, Feb 27 - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that the proposal to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) over issues involving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was discussed at today’s Cabinet meeting.

He said discussions went smoothly and that an official statement would be issued soon.

“We discussed it earlier. It went well. A statement will follow,” he told reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Pekan Kajang here.

Previously, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke proposed at a Cabinet meeting that an RCI be established to probe into allegations of a “corporate mafia”.

These allegations revolve around claims that senior MACC officials orchestrated a campaign of intimidation to pressure executives and shareholders of public-listed companies into resigning or selling their shares at steep discounts to a network of businessmen.
