In conjunction with the official Birthday Celebrations of the 35th Sultan of Perak, His Royal Highness Paduka Seri Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, which falls on Friday, 7th November, 2025; my wife, Zarina and I hit the highway from Putrajaya to visit her hometown, Kuala Kangsar, the Royal Town of Perak. We loved to see public spaces, streets, government buildings and even private premises are decorated with Perak state flags and banners, lights & floral arrangements to create a festive atmosphere. It is a significant public holiday in the state of Perak to honor the special reigning constitutional monarch as a symbol of unity, leadership & tradition. The monarchy since its establishment in 1528 has played a vital role in shaping Perak's political & cultural identity. (https://www.perak.gov.my; www.royalark.net)

Over centuries, Sultan of Perak has served as the constitutional monarch and head of state, and the protector of Islam in the state & a real unifying figure representing the people of Perak. So, as the bona fide of Perak, my wife & I joined our relatives and kampung folks to reaffirm our loyalty to the monarchy.

We took the golden opportunity to revisit Kuala Kangsar by following the Heritage Trail, a self-guided walkabout that highlights the town's colonial and royal history. Key landmarks on this trail include charming heritage buildings, old shop houses, Perak Royal Museum and architecturally Ubudiah Mosque.

For lunch, we decided to eat at a hidden cafe, Selera D'Kelab Idris Kuala Kangsar, still stand proud of its traditions and delicious food. It was named after Almarhum Sultan Idris 1 and is well known amongst the royalty, the British officers and planters in its heyday of which now open for the public at large. We were fortunate on public holidays, the cafe offered promotional dishes like a fragrant of sweet sour fish, tomyam topped with shrimp and fresh herbs. (https://idrisclub.com)
