In today’s Café Feature series, we’re stepping slightly outside the usual café scene to highlight a cozy and satisfying noodle spot. Ren Ren Noodle is a humble yet satisfying eatery tucked inside Seventeen Mall, Petaling Jaya. It offers a refreshing twist for café goers looking for something a little different, making it a solid choice for a quiet lunch or solo work break.

Environment

The environment at Ren Ren Noodle is clean and spacious, with subtle touches of modern Chinese design. Although it’s located inside a mall, the place still offers a more relaxed corner compared to the busier main areas. There is soft in-house music playing in the background, creating a cozy ambience that’s still conducive for light work or casual reading.

Seating is comfortable and spacious, with a few plug points available if you need to charge your devices, though not ideal for long working hours. There’s no Wi-Fi available, so it’s best suited for focused solo sessions, casual meetings, or light laptop work after enjoying a full and satisfying meal. Staff are friendly and attentive without hovering, making it a solid spot to reset or chat without rush.

Food

The menu centers around hand-pulled noodles, rice bowls and classic Chinese side dishes. I tried their Gula Melaka Braised Minced Pork Noodle (RM18.80) and Duck Noodle (RM23.80). Their noodles have a springy texture with a strong egg taste. Though it’s not a typical dried noodle coated with dark soy sauce, the lard mixed inside the noodle brings out its aromatic flavour. I recommend pairing it with their house-made chili oil which adds an extra kick.

I would highly recommend their duck noodles. The duck meat is tender and juicy and spiced with fermented bean curd and herbal spices. Their Gula Melaka Braised Minced Pork is pretty good too. It has a noticeable kick from the five-spice powder, which balances nicely with the sweetness of the gula melaka (palm sugar).

While they offer a variety of drinks such as tea, kombucha and house-made drinks, don’t miss out their Flat White (RM13). Served in a generous cup, it’s smooth, aromatic, and packs a bold punch thanks to its strong coffee beans. Their Fu Chuk Yi Mai (Barley with Beancurd Skin) is a newly added menu. It’s thick and tastes like something your grandma would lovingly simmer over hours. You may adjust the level of sweetness according to your liking. Overall it’s just pure, homemade comfort in a bowl.

Accessibility

Conveniently located in the heart of Section 17, the mall offers easy access with ample parking, lift access, and is just minutes away from Jaya One and SS2. Whether you're arriving by car or ride-hailing, getting here is hassle-free. However, getting here via public transportation might be troublesome as there are no nearby train stations.

Verdict

Ren Ren Noodle is the kind of place I’d come back to for a satisfying, filling meal. Then I would stay a little longer for dessert (they even have traditional kuih!), and maybe get some work done or just hang out and chat with friends for a few hours. It’s low-key, cozy, and serves both comfort and convenience in one spot.
