Cain Velasquez has broken his silence following his release from jail.
In March 2025, the former UFC heavyweight champion received a five-year sentence.
By the time he was sentenced, Velasquez had already served 1,283 days, so he spent just 11 months in prison before being released to return home to his family last month.
Cain Velasquez shows gratitude for fans’ support

The MMA community stood firmly behind Velasquez during his legal battles and prison time, with widespread support coming in from fans and fellow fighters alike.
Since returning home, ‘Cardio Cain’ has spoken out about the impact that backing had on him, expressing his gratitude in a recent video message.
On Wednesday, he said in an Instagram video: “Now that it’s been a couple of weeks since my release, I’ve had some time to kind of get back into things.
“Get back into a normal way of life, get used to just doing the normal things, being at home with my family, and being there for my kids.
“I just wanna thank everybody for their love and support. Your words of encouragement constantly lift me up. I just wanna take this time here to thank everybody for the constant support. You have no idea what your words, encouragement, and love have meant to me and my family. Just thank you.
“I’ll keep doing the work to get back to everyone. For myself now, just fully get back out there. I didn’t want to overwhelm myself with the pace of life I was getting used to, to now, all of a sudden, a new way of living and rhythm. I just had to get used to it and I’ve been doing that.
“Again, thank you, everyone. It’s good to be out.”
Why did Cain Velasquez go to jail?
Back in February 2022, Cain Velasquez found himself in the middle of a high-speed chase.
He was chasing Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting his young son at a family-run daycare.
After crashing into the vehicle, Velasquez fired several shots from a handgun. While he missed Goularte, he did end up hitting his stepfather.
The ex-heavyweight champion later pleaded no contest to multiple charges, including attempted murder and felony assault.
