SANDAKAN: The Health Ministry and Federal Government were urged to approve the upgrade plan of Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK), here, as soon as possible.
Making the call, Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee said that as the East Coast’s main hospital, HDOK also receives patients from the area.
Still, she said, the equipment is becoming obsolete and needs to be replaced immediately.
She said this after being informed by the hospital that a row of seats at the consultant clinic was damaged and broken.

Her special officer Tang Szu Ching then visited the hospital as she was on another official duty.
“I will replace the seats soon, but this is not a long-term solution. HDOK needs help from the government to replace all old equipment,” she said.
“The number of patients in the hospital is high. As such, the hospital’s safety and equipment are also important and could not be disregarded.”
Even though HDOK has been included under the Health Ministry’s attention, Vivian hopes it will be put into the priority list for improvement.
“I will continue to voice out this matter as it concerns the needs of patients in the East Coast and Sandakan,” he said.
