KENINGAU: Those with family members or friends who are disabled (OKU) are urged to register their special children at Community Rehabilitation Organisations (PPDK) in their respective districts.
This is important in order to know the distribution of the number of people with disabilities and to plan programmes and services related to rehabilitation suitable for them, among others.
“We do not want this group to drop out, because they are also entitled to equal rights and opportunities for full participation in society,” said Deputy Chief Minister l, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
“I believe that with the existence of rehabilitation centres such as PPDK, they are able to provide a better quality of social life to this group,” he said at the closing of a PPDK Keningau Division OKU Carnival at the community hall, here.

but also provide facilities to all groups with disabilities so they are not marginalised.
He said the programmes implemented had a positive impact on this group throughout Keningau, Tambunan, Tenom, Sook, Kemabong, Nabawan and Keningau.
Under the programme there is a centre that provides guidance and support and rehabilitation to the disabled so they can be independent and manage themselves better.
Dr Jeffrey, who is also Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, is also to foster the spirit of team work in addition to strengthening relationship between all PPDK Keningau Division members.
The OKU Carnival started on February 20 with the participation of a total of 168 participants consisting of 14 PPDK trainees with involving 13 parents, 48 committee members and 46 teaching staff.
Present were Assistant Minister of Works and Bingkor Assemblyman, Datuk Robert Tawik, District Officer, Peter Jonu Moinjil, Executive Officer of the Keningau District Council, Mohd Fawzi Abdul Kadir, Organising Chairman, Harry Gitik, Heads of State and Federal Government Departments, Keningau Division PPDK Coordinators, Chairmen of PPDK and parents.
