Cam Smith seems to be more than happy with his life over on LIV Golf.

Smith left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf not long after he won the Open Championship at St Andrews in 2022.

He has won three times on LIV Golf, but he is without a victory since August 2023, and his form in the major championships has been terribly poor.

Cam Smith has missed six straight cuts in the majors and is without a top-10 finish since The Masters in 2024.

Despite that poor form, the 32-year-old Australian has embraced the LIV Golf concept more than most, and he seems to be more than happy plying his trade with the Saudi-backed league.

However, Saudi Arabia’s PIF will be withdrawing their funding from LIV Golf from the end of the 2026 season onwards.

When Cam Smith missed his sixth consecutive major cut at The Masters in April, some golf fans were suggesting that his career at the very highest level was already over.

However, the 32-year-old doesn’t see it that way whatsoever.

Smith has been speaking about the future of LIV Golf during an interview with 10 News in Australia.

The 2022 Open champion responded when asked whether he has been given assurances that LIV will survive after this season.

“I’ve been given every assurance, the Australian replied.

On rumors that he could retire, Smith responded emphatically.

“I’m 32, I’ve got a while yet, he insisted.

I haven’t been asked that question before, that’s good. Since joining LIV, I’ve learnt to deal with speculation.

“I want to win tournaments, I want to win majors, it’s been a while since I’ve been truly competitive at the top of leaderboards.

“The fire is really burning at the moment. It feels like I’m getting a lot of confidence out on the golf course again, which I’ve struggled with.”

Cam Smith risked tarnishing his legacy by joining LIV Golf

Judging by those comments, Smith clearly still has ambitions of winning the very biggest titles building upon his already impressive résumé.

However, he has made his task of doing that incredibly hard by joining LIV Golf in the first place.

LIV Golf is clearly not preparing Smith adequately for major championships.

Interestingly, he was one of four players who were given the chance to return to the PGA Tour back in January by Brian Rolapp, alongside Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm.

However, only Koepka accepted the olive branch offered by the PGA Tour CEO, and Smith was particularly bullish about his desire to remain with LIV Golf.

Cam Smith’s elongated run of poor form is such a shame because he was on track to becoming a genuine star in the professional game just before he swapped the PGA Tour for LIV Golf.

And whether he will ever be able to rediscover his best form remains to be seen.
