Cam Young’s third round at The Players Championship ended in disaster, as he made a double bogey on his final hole.

Young battled hard throughout his round to get to two-under-par after 17 holes on day three of The Players.

However, he hooked his tee shot into the water on 18 and actually did well to make a six in the end.

As a result, Cam Young shot an even-par 72 and fell back to nine-under par for the tournament, four shots adrift of the leader, Ludvig Aberg.

If the 28-year-old is to win The Players Championship on Sunday, he will need to go very low in his final round.

Young’s recent putting improvements have taken his game to a whole new level entirely.

However, the fact that he still only has one PGA Tour win to his name tells its own story.

Cam Young speaks to media after double bogeying the last at The Players

After walking off the 18th green, Young immediately spoke to the media.

He was asked to sum up his round after he made a six on his final hole of the day at TPC Sawgrass.

I feel like I battled pretty well. I didn’t play great, Young admitted.

Been driving it really well, and today I just didn’t get it in the fairways much. I hit a bunch of decent shots, but just one of those days where they all were 32 feet, and you don’t make many of those.

To get it back to 2-under with one hole to go I feel like was pretty good. Honestly, the tee shot wasn’t bad. I almost bent over to pick up the tee when I hit it.

There’s a bunch of wind up there, and it just kept turning and turning and was a foot too much.

It’s pretty much if you hit a bad shot you make a double for the most part.

So there’s not much room for error and, yeah, it’s taxing, but I feel like these two weeks, Bay Hill, here, you’re just kind of ready for it. Yeah, it’s definitely, you have to be in it all day, but just keep hitting them.

Cam Young says what score he thinks he can shoot on Sunday at Sawgrass

Young was asked by reporters whether he believes he can still win The Players on Sunday.

Yeah, for sure, Young said.

I don’t expect him to give me much, but I also feel like could I shoot 8- or 9-under, so like we saw with JT last year, he shot 10, you know, Ludvig shot 9 yesterday, there’s been a bunch of 7s, and I wouldn’t expect him to give me even one back.

But I think those numbers are out there, and no reason why I can’t be the one to shoot them.

The good news is that Cam Young possesses the firepower required to go seriously low on Sunday at The Players Championship.

It will all come down to whether or not he can hole his fair share of putts and keep the bogeys and worse off his card.

Aberg’s bogey on 18 would have given him a little boost, there’s no doubt about that.
