Cam Young won The Players Championship after playing some terrific golf during the final round at TPC Sawgrass.
Young got the better of Matt Fitzpatrick after parring his final hole of the tournament as the Englishman made a bogey.
The Players is arguably the fifth most prestigious tournament in the game, so the 28-year-old New Yorker will gain huge confidence from his win on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass.
Young started the final day of The Players Championship four shots adrift of the overnight leader, Ludvig Aberg, while Fitzpatrick was a further stroke back.
However, the Swede collapsed on the back nine, leaving the door wide open for both Young and Fitzpatrick to walk through.
Cam Young insisted he could still win The Players on Saturday night, despite making a double bogey on his final hole on day three.
And he proved he has the mettle to win the very biggest events by shooting a final round 68 at TPC Sawgrass.
What Cam Young did right before Matt Fitzpatrick’s par putt on 18 at The Players
Fitzpatrick was in the driving seat after 16 holes, with the Englishman sitting one shot ahead of the American.
However, Young made an excellent birdie on the par-three 17th and then crushed a drive 375 yards down the middle of the fairway on 18.
From that position he was left with a nine-inch putt for par, while Fitzpatrick faced seven-foot putt to force a play-off.

The 31-year-old eventually missed his par putt and Young went on to win.
However, the two-time PGA Tour winner has received huge praise for what he did before Fitzpatrick’s par putt.
Ewen Murray was commentating on the tournament for Sky Sports in the UK, and he praised Young for marking his ball, rather than tapping his putt in.
“His awareness at 18 to mark that,“ Murray pointed out.
“It was no more than eight or nine inches. It was a certain four. But his awareness to mark that and give Fitzpatrick not too much noise, it would have lasted for some time if he had tapped in.“
Cam Young a class act at The Players
That was a real class act from Young, and Fitzpatrick would undoubtedly have appreciated the gesture.
He deserves huge respect for having the calmness of thought to mark his ball rather than just tap it in, given the highly intense pressure he was under at that moment.
Cam Young’s win at The Players Championship has vaulted him into the upper echelons of professional golf.
He clearly has the mettle needed to win a major championship after what he showed down the stretch at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday.
Now it’s down to him to keep improving and leave his mark on the game’s most prestigious events.
