KOTA BELUD: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the increase in State revenue from RM4 billion to over RM7 billion the past four years and comprehensive welfare programmes costing billions of ringgit that have benefitted Sabahans from all walks of life prove beyond doubt the GRS-Plus state government’s success.
“If the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government failed, we will not be able to provide so much assistance or increase revenue (like no other state government did),” the Chief Minister said at the SMJ Community Engagement Programme at Kampung Pantai Emas, here.
He said since taking office, the GRS government launched some 400 initiatives under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan with an impressive 94 per cent implementation rate focused on improving people’s welfare and advancing State development.
The government’s commitment to social welfare is evident in its substantial financial allocations, he said.
Between 2021 and 2024, the State spent RM1.49 billion benefiting 336,076 welfare aid recipients through various schemes including the General Assistance Scheme and Orphans Assistance Scheme.
In 2025, the State allocated RM385.5 million for the Sentuhan Kasih Rakyat programme, targeting 100,000 recipients from poor and hardcore poor communities.
An additional RM488.5 million has been earmarked for various poverty eradication programmes this year.
Education has received unprecedented attention, with the State investing some RM1.33 billion in human capital development.
The scholarship allocation alone increased dramatically to RM138 million this year, compared to just RM50 million previously.
“This has never been done before,” said Hajiji, pointing out the government’s belief in investing in education to produce skilled Sabahans.
He outlined the State’s strategic focus on the Blue Economy as a means to create new wealth streams for Sabah.
Additional revenue has been generated through enhanced participation in the oil and gas sector following the signing of the Commercial Collaboration Agreement with Petronas.
Hajiji criticised the opposition for spreading slander and lies on social media, particularly targeting the previous administration’s planning capabilities.
He addressed claims about the Sabah Native Land Surveying Programme (Pantas), clarifying that it predated the opposition’s tenure.
“The opposition only knows how to spread slander and lies on social media. The two-and-a-half-year government had no planning when they were in power but now talk big like they know everything,” he said.
During the event, Hajiji presented Pantas land grants to 10 recipients representing 502 others, welfare aid, Rumah Mesra SMJ keys and contributions to 66 schools in the district through the District Education Office.
He was accompanied by key officialsincluding SMJ Secretariat Chief Co-ordinator Datuk Datu Rosmadi Datu Sulai and several assemblymen from the coalition.
