MANILA, Philippines — Vancouver-based dance crew Brotherhood Dance Crew brought Filipino culture to the international stage, combining apl.de.ap’s “Bebot,” budots and a playful take on tinikling in its winning performance at the Los Angeles leg of the International Dance League.
The performance on Sept. 19 also highlighted the crew’s strong Filipino and Filipino-Canadian presence, with several members tracing their roots to the Philippines. Brotherhood's 2026 lineup includes Filipino dancers Adrian Vendiola, Alo Galedo, Angelo Admana, Francis Aranton, Jon Ray Dy Buco, Michael Delleva and Miguel Axibal, among others, according to the IDL's official roster.
Brotherhood's Filipino references were woven directly into its choreography. At one point in the routine, dancers performed a version of tinikling using garters, while budots added another distinctly Filipino element to the high-energy performance. The routine also featured “Bebot,” the Filipino-inspired hip-hop track by apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas.
The Los Angeles performance came as Brotherhood continued its dominant run in the 2026 IDL season. The Vancouver-based team had already won the New York, Vancouver, Sydney and Seoul series before taking the Los Angeles title, remaining undefeated through the five regular-season stops.
Brotherhood faced Jam Republic Southeast Asia in the second matchup of the Los Angeles Series' first round. The event featured six professional teams competing in the IDL's structured format, with the crews advancing through head-to-head rounds before the final podium.
The IDL, which launched its first full professional season in 2026, brings together six teams representing major dance communities around the world: Brotherhood of Vancouver, GRV of Los Angeles, 1Million of Seoul, Royal Family of Auckland, Jam Republic Southeast Asia and Quick Style of Oslo.
Brotherhood was founded in 2011 in Surrey, British Columbia, by choreographer Scott Forsyth and a group of local dancers. The crew quickly established itself on the international competition circuit. It won back-to-back gold medals at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in 2013 and 2014, followed by victories at Body Rock in 2015 and Vibe Dance Competition in 2017 and 2019. It also won three consecutive World of Dance Vancouver titles from 2013 to 2015.
The crew later appeared on NBC's “World of Dance” Season 2 in 2018, bringing its competitive style to a global television audience.
