KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Football League (MFL) president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan has described his nomination for the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) presidency for the remainder of the 2025-2029 term as a major responsibility in efforts to improve the direction of Malaysian football.
He said that if entrusted with the position, his focus would be on strengthening governance, football development and competition management, while ensuring the interests of all parties within the football ecosystem continue to receive due attention.
“I want to bring a more open, professional and collaborative approach. We need to sit together, listen to the views of all parties and find the best solutions for the future of Malaysian football,” he said.
Earlier, FAM confirmed the list of candidates for the FAM Executive Committee Elections 2025-2029, which will be held during the Second FAM Extraordinary Congress 2026 on Sept 17.
The race for the presidency will see Ghani challenged by Selangor Football Association (FAS) deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, who has also been named as a candidate.
At the same time, Ab Ghani said he respected the election process and other candidates who had put themselves forward, while choosing not to disclose his plans in detail before the election.
“I am stepping forward with the intention of serving and contributing the experience I have for the interests of Malaysian football,” he said.
