
TAWAU: The engine of a Perodua Myvi caught fire at Batu 3 Jalan Apas around 7.27am, Saturday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Jemishin Ujin said nine personnel along with two machines were deployed to the scene of the incident after receiving an emergency call at 7.29am via MERS999.
Jemishin said the Perodua Myvi engine was 20 per cent burnt due to a collision with a three-ton Isuzu lorry and a Proton Saga.
However, the fire, he said, was put out by the public using a fire extinguisher before his team arrived at the scene.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Semporna, a fishing boat was reported to have caught fire at Bukit Sakong Sungai Buaya around 9.50am, Saturday.
Atas Air Semporna Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Abdul Kadir Halalan, said a team of six personnel were deployed to the location with a kevlar boat after receiving an emergency call at 9.55am through MERS999.
Kadir said the team was also assisted by five personnel as well as two machines including utilities from BBP Semporna.
He said the operation is underway and there are no victims reported so far.
