Kota Kinabalu: A mother and her son escaped unhurt after their car crashed into a sewage treatment pond along Jalan Loji, Taman Kingfisher, Friday morning.

The 8.30am incident involved a Perodua Viva.

According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, both the 79-year-old woman and her 49-year-old son were trapped inside but rescued by passers-by before firemen arrived.

“The driver escaped through the driver’s side window in a similar manner.

“Among those who helped was an off-duty firefighter, PBK I Hasrulnizam Md Zain, who happened to be passing by,” said Lintas Fire and Rescue Station Chief Agustavia Joe Guasi.

A 10-member team from the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene within minutes.

The operation concluded at 8.54am after ensuring the site was safe. Police were also present to assist in the investigation.
