KUNAK: A driver, along with his wife and child, escaped unharmed after the Proton Saga he was driving skidded off the road shoulder along Jalan Kunak Spur on Friday afternoon.
The incident, which occurred around 2pm, happened while the driver was on his way back to his workplace at an oil palm plantation, here.
He is believed to have experienced microsleep while driving and nearly collided with an oncoming vehicle.
“I dozed off while driving and did not realise the car had gone into a roadside ditch,” he said when met at the scene.
An oncoming vehicle managed to swerve in time to avoid the Proton Saga, which had veered off and struck a roadside lamp post.
A tow truck was at the scene to pull the vehicle out from the shallow ditch.
