Fleetwood Town have earned a home Carabao Cup quarter-final against Everton or Newcastle after pulling off a remarkable upset against Arsenal.
The League Two side will again play at Highbury having become the first club from the fourth division to reach the last eight since Colchester United in 2019/20, and await the winner of the final fourth-round tie. It was a tough draw, meanwhile, for League One’s Bradford City, who must travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on holders Manchester City.
Elsewhere, Andoni Iraola faces a reunion with Bournemouth after his Liverpool side overcame Chelsea in a tense penalty shootout. An encounter between Crystal Palace and Sunderland completes the last-eight line-up, with the semi-final places to be settled in the week of 14 December.

Here we go
Wednesday 28 October 2026 22:29 , Harry Latham-CoyleRight, here we are. Four quarter-finals to be drawn...
Tasty ties?
Wednesday 28 October 2026 22:25 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt’s an intriguing last eight, you’d have to say – a couple of lower-league sides rather add to the fun, but there’s a nice blend of Premier League clubs, too. The draw should be on the way very, very shortly.
Liverpool are through!
Wednesday 28 October 2026 22:14 , Harry Latham-CoyleThat’s that! A brilliant penalty from Joe Gomez is followed by a rather nastier one from Wesley Fofana, and Liverpool progress on penalties.
A save each way!
Wednesday 28 October 2026 22:11 , Harry Latham-CoyleNot Ryan Gravenberch’s night. Having conceded a penalty in the first half, he misses his spot-kick here...but it doesn’t matter as Emmanuel Emegha fails to beat Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Onwards!
Wednesday 28 October 2026 22:07 , Harry Latham-CoyleNever in doubt. In it goes from Jordan Henderson and they are off to sudden death.
Or not!
Wednesday 28 October 2026 22:07 , Harry Latham-CoyleNot the best from Tsimikas. Some way over the crossbar. Still, Jordan Henderson has to score – in front of the Kop.

Liverpool edge ahead
Wednesday 28 October 2026 22:05 , Harry Latham-CoyleOh dear. A stuttering run-up from Valentin Barco and he plants his penalty against the inside of the post. Kostas Tsimikas can win it...
Penalties!
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:54 , Harry Latham-CoyleThey cannot. Off to spot-kicks for Liverpool and Chelsea, which will mean a slight delay to the commencement of the draw proceedings. Sorry.
Liverpool and Chelsea seek late winner
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:44 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt’s still 1-1 at Anfield, with Liverpool throwing on three £100m+ signings in search of a late winner. Flaunt it if you’ve got it, I suppose.
Plenty of pricey talent out there for Chelsea, too. Can they crack the game open before a penalty shootout?

Sunderland and Crystal Palace book quarter-final spots
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:40 , Harry Latham-CoyleIgor Thiago struck in stoppage time for Brentford but it was too little, too late at the Stadium of Light – Sunderland advance with a 3-2 win.
And full credit to the under pressure Pierre Sage, who has navigated into the quarter-finals with Crystal Palace. A resolute defensive performance at Fulham, and a 1-0 win.
Also progressing
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:37 , Harry Latham-CoylePeep, peep, peep! It’s all over at Bournemouth, where the hosts were convincing 3-0 winners against Aston Villa.
Manchester City are through!
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:34 , Harry Latham-CoyleCruel for Lewis Dunk – the Brighton veteran sees his spot-kick saved by Geronimo Rulli and Manchester City are through!
On they go...
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:33 , Harry Latham-CoyleThree in, one missed for Manchester City and Brighton in the shootout so far, with Geronimo Rulli producing a fine save from Yasin Ayari.
Manchester City and Brighton to be settled in shootout
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:23 , Harry Latham-CoyleMats Wieffer came mightily close to a winner for the visitors, rattling the woodwork late on, but it is to spot-kicks Manchester City and Brighton go after a 2-2 draw.
Carabao Cup latest
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:18 , Harry Latham-CoyleA second-half surge from Bournemouth looks to have them on course for the quarter-finals, while Crystal Palace are holding firm at Fulham. 15 minutes to go in those games, along with Sunderland’s tie with Brentford – the hosts still lead 3-1.
Manchester City and Brighton may well be bound for penalties...

Martin Odegaard calls on Arsenal to 'step up' after Fleetwood humiliation
Wednesday 28 October 2026 21:00 , Mike JonesMartin Odegaard has warned his Arsenal teammates there is no time for self-pity following a surprise Carabao Cup elimination by League Two outfit Fleetwood on Tuesday evening.
"It’s very frustrating to go out," Odegaard said. "Obviously, the way we’ve played was not on the level. We need to do much, much better than we did.
"Frustrating, but congratulations to Fleetwood and we look forward to the next game already and bounce back.
"They did well so we have to give them credit, but I think (it) was about us not being on our level, we need to do better. I thought we improved during the game, but again, we need to step up even more – so that’s a shame."
Arsenal to launch appeal against Dowman red card
Wednesday 28 October 2026 20:50 , Mike JonesArsenal will lodge an appeal against Max Dowman’s red card following Tuesday night’s unexpected Carabao Cup elimination against League Two side Fleetwood.
The 16-year-old was sent off for kicking out at Harrison Neal after a physical tackle in the 85th minute of the match, which Arsenal lost on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
Boss Mikel Arteta spoke briefly to the teenager as he exited the pitch at Highbury, and Arsenal intend to submit an appeal to the Football Association, with paperwork needing to be lodged before Thursday's 1pm deadline.
Liverpool level
Wednesday 28 October 2026 20:44 , Harry Latham-CoyleScratch that! Liverpool are now level with Chelsea, replying in kind with Cody Gakpo confident and calm from 12 yards.
A penalty apiece and it’s 1-1 with half time nearing.

Carabao Cup quarter-final draw
Wednesday 28 October 2026 20:00 , Mike JonesFleetwood Town have become the story of the Carabao Cup as the lowest-ranked team remaining in the competition knocked out Premier League champions Arsenal to reach the quarter-finals.
The fourth-tier side stunned Mikel Arteta’s team on penalties, following a 1-1 draw at Highbury, in one of the tournament’s biggest ever shocks to potentially book another blockbuster draw.
There are still plenty of big hitters in the mix, after all, with Liverpool’s heavyweight clash with Chelsea headlining the remainder of the fourth-round matches to be played this week.
Holders Manchester City remain top contenders but face a stern test against high-flying Brighton in another intriguing tie as we approach the business end of the tournament.
Fleetwood could yet face Bradford Town for a semi-final place, however, after the 2012 runners-up defeated Peterborough United to secure their progress on Tuesday.
