- The 23-year-old seven-time grand slam champion, who was forced to miss the French Open and Wimbledon, announced his comeback alongside football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano using his trademark phrase "Here we go".
- Alcaraz's return coincides with the US Open announcing a record total prize fund of $108m (approximately £80m), representing a 20 per cent increase, with the men's and women's singles champions each receiving $5.5m (approximately £4m).
- Tournament directors hope the historic payout will resolve ongoing disputes with top players who have raised concerns over prize money and operational matters under the banner Project RedEye.
- The major grand slams have also jointly announced the establishment of a new grand slam player advisory council launching after the US Open, alongside a $2m (approximately £1.5m) player support programme to improve communication and player welfare.
