Both UFC 327 headliners are dealing with extended absences, but for very different reasons
Each of the main event fighters at UFC 327 could be looking at an extended spell away from the Octagon, though their situations aren’t exactly the same.
Carlos Ulberg claimed the vacant UFC light heavyweight belt after stopping Jiri Prochazka in Sao Paulo last weekend.
The newly crowned champion tore his ACL during the fight, which now requires surgery and a potential recovery period of up to a year.
Ulberg did try to push through despite injury
Ahead of the fight, reports surfaced that Ulberg had suffered a knee injury during camp. He later confirmed he’d damaged his MCL early on but chose not to pull out as it wasn’t deemed severe enough.
A few minutes into his title bout against Jiri Prochazka, though, he felt something snap while throwing a kick. Still feeling competitive and banking on being able to win before it got worse, Ulberg kept fighting until eventually finishing things inside two rounds.
Full list of medical suspensions from UFC 327
