
The Gurugram police have arrested the cashier who stole cash and jewellery from a jewellery showroom in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar. The police have recovered Rs 5,31,700 in cash, gold jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh and 43 grams of silver from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Prasanjit Samanta (34), a resident of Gochati village in West Bengal.
According to the police, a woman who runs a jewellery showroom at Gold Souk Mall, Sector 43, filed a complaint, claiming that Prasanjit had been her cashier for the past three years.
On May 12, she sent him to paint the shop. When she arrived on May 13, he was missing. The staff informed her that Prasanjit had the keys to the cash drawer. When she opened the cash drawer, she found approximately Rs 6 lakh in cash, gold coins, gold jewelry and other valuables missing. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against the cashier at the Sushant Lok police station.
A senior police official said they had taken the accused on two days’ transit remand from the Gandhinagar court and that he was being questioned.
