Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man will know on Oct 14 this year whether he has case to answer on a charge of causing grievous hurt to another man.

Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim set the date for Reezid Kasmin when the prosecution closed its case after calling 15 witnesses during the hearing.

The court also fixed Sept 29 this year for both parties to submit latest submissions.

Reezid is accused of assaulting Mohd Bovi Wong, 26, by using a knife and a sword at 11pm on Jan 6, 2020 in front of the Kedai Mike Café in Tuaran.

He allegedly committed the offence together with another accused Abdul Razif Juani who admitted to the charge and was sentenced accordingly, and also together with an accomplice still at large.

The offence under Section 326/34 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, and liability to a fine, on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Faezah Jafry conducted the prosecution while counsel counsel Erveana Ansari Ali defended Reezid.

In another court, a man was sentenced to five years’ jail and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for repeating to take drug.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus meted out the sentence to Mitchel Sammy @ Brandon who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

Mitchel was found taking drug on June 28 this year after his urine was tested positive for drug at the Kota Belud police station.

He has several convictions record for taking the drug.

The court ordered Mitchel to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After serving the jail sentence, the court ordered Mitchel to be placed under police supervision for three years.
