Cayetano admits gaps in Palace communications, vows better public engagement

MANILA, Philippines — Newly appointed Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Lino Cayetano stressed the need to better explain the programs of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration to the public.

In a meeting with the Malacañang Press Corps on Friday, just two weeks after he took on his new role, Cayetano recognized that the PCO has had gaps in relaying information to the public and stressed the need to have a better relationship with the media, as the administration values the role of the fourth estate.

"We need to do a better job of explaining to you—what is the president doing right now? Why is he doing this?" Cayetano said, responding to a question by The Manila Times.

He added that the president's directive focuses on developmental communication—a strategy aimed at showing how the Filipino people directly benefit from inspections, executive orders, and projects carried out by various government agencies.
