MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday dismissed calls for his resignation as politically motivated, saying similar campaigns had been launched against him during his previous stints in government.
“For me, it’s a concerted effort from day one to get me out because they want someone they can control,” he said.
“I will take responsibility for my reaction, how I handled everything. But I cannot take responsibility for them shooting at us,” Cayetano said, maintaining that the Senate was under attack.
The Senate chief earlier said that there were attempts to remove him as Senate president, just days after his group ousted Sen. Vicente Sotto as Senate president.
