MANILA, Philippines — Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano said he was prepared to face possible charges over alleged anomalous flood control projects in Taguig City even if it led to imprisonment.
Cayetano however maintained that he would not voluntarily surrender and would defend himself through legal proceedings.
In a Facebook livestream addressing the looming investigation of alleged ghost flood control projects in Taguig, Cayetano said citizens should continue to stand for the truth, adding that he himself is ready to pay the price for fighting for what is right.
"We're prepared to face any legal cases. If they really decide to put us in jail, then so be it. But that doesn't mean we'll willingly surrender ourselves. Of course, we will fight to uphold the truth," he said.
Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson earlier alleged that Cayetano had P6.79 billion in Taguig-related allocables under the 2025 national budget and P14.4 billion worth of infrastructure projects in the city from 2020 to 2025.
Cayetano denied Lacson's claims, saying that Taguig City’s flood control problem has significantly improved in the last 30 to 40 years.
"Well, Sen. Lacson, you won’t drown in Taguig, you will drown in the truth. When lies are constantly told, it is the truth that can drown you," he said.
