New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Shillong, and two private persons in connection with an alleged bribery case.

According to the release, the CBI registered the instant case on July 1 against the accused NHAI official, a private person and others based on a complaint alleging that the Project Director demanded a bribe of Rs 12 lakh from the complainant for processing an outstanding bill of Rs 13.38 crore.

The accused public servant instructed the complainant to pay Rs 4 lakh in advance and directed him to hand over the amount to a private person in Guwahati. The private person allegedly asked the complainant to deliver the money to another private person in the city.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused private persons red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting the advance bribe amount of Rs 4 lakh from the complainant.

Subsequently, the accused Project Director and both the private persons were arrested, and searches were conducted at their respective premises.

Further investigation is continuing.

Earlier on Saturday, the CBI arrested an Assistant Garrison Engineer, Military Engineering Services, from Himachal Pradesh's Manali in a bribery case.

The accused Assistant Garrison Engineer demanded a bribe of Rs 93,000 from the complainant for passing bills of his firm. The complainant made a part payment of Rs 40,000 to the said accused on July 3 in his office.

The accused asked the complainant to come to his office today, along with the remaining bribe amount of Rs 53 thousand.

The CBI laid a trap today and caught the accused Assistant Garrison Engineer red-handed while demanding a total of Rs 93000 and accepting a part of the bribe amount of Rs 53000 from the complainant.

The bribe amount of Rs 40,000, which was accepted by the accused yesterday, has also been recovered today from his residence in the MES area in Manali

According to the release, a search at his residence is going on, and so far another cash of about Rs 10 Lakh has also been recovered. (ANI)
