MANILA, Philippines — Cebu Pacific (CEB) on Saturday hosted 120 aspiring young Filipina aviators at its Training Academy (TRAAC) for this year's Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD), which aimed to encourage women to pursue careers in aviation and aerospace.
The annual international initiative, organized by Women in Aviation International (WAI), provides hands-on activities, learning sessions, and direct membership from industry professionals.
This year's event was led by CEB's women's community, EmpowHER, in partnership with WAI's Philippine chapter (WAI-PH). Participants included daughters of employees from CEB and its subsidiaries, 1Aviation and Aplus, alongside female students from Air Link International Aviation College, De La Salle University, Gat Andres Bonifacio High School, and Ignacio Villamor High School.
During the event, participants toured TRAAC to observe how flight operations, aircraft maintenance, and customer experience teams collaborate to manage daily airline operations. Female aviation professionals also shared their career insights and experiences.
"Building a stronger, more inclusive aviation workforce starts by helping young people see themselves in it," said Felix Lopez, Cebu Pacific Chief Human Resources Officer. "By giving young women early exposure to the people, possibilities, and diverse careers behind an airline, we can help them discover where their strengths can take them."
According to organizers, women remain underrepresented in technical and flight-related fields within the aviation sector. WAI-PH and its partners utilize GIAD to broaden career exposure and inspire the next generation of female talent.
Cebu Pacific supported the event through its employee-led communities, allowing staff members to share industry experience and mentor young participants exploring aerospace careers.
