Cebu Pacific wins Malaysian court case vs AirAsia MOVE

Cebu Pacific on Tuesday said that a Malaysian court had ruled in its favor in a case filed against MOVE Travel Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Air Asia MOVE travel platform, over the unauthorized ticket sales and trademark ise.

MOVE Travel was ordered by the High Court of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur to pay RM120,000 (P1.8 million) in costs and will also be liable for damages to be determined in additional proceedings.

MOVE Travel, which was sued by Cebu Pacific in June 2024, was barred from using the Cebu Pacific and Cebgo trademarks and also told to stop offering or selling Cebu Pacific flights through its travel platform.

“Cebu Pacific remains supportive of travel platforms and partners that use the Cebu Pacific and Cebgo trademarks and distribute, offer to sell or sell airline tickets bearing the Cebu Pacific and Cebgo trademarks, provided that they do so with Cebu Pacific’s proper authorization,” the carrier said in a statement.

“The airline also reminds passengers that booking directly with Cebu Pacific remains the best way to access the airline's lowest fares and latest promos, manage bookings easily, receive direct flight notifications, and enjoy a smoother customer experience,” it added.

Cebu Air Inc., the operator of Cebu Pacific, saw its share price fall by P0.50, or 1.69 percent, to P29.10 on Tuesday.
